Chapter Seven

Trembling, Naomi sucked in a deep breath as Jonathan spread open the unbuttoned halves of her shirtwaist. With glittering eyes, he leaned down, letting his lips graze her cheeks, her jaw, the hollow of her neck. She felt her body pulsing with carnal hunger as he moved lower, his mouth closing around one tight nipple. He suckled hungrily at the hardened peak, his tongue circling and teasing. His sure hand slipped into her drawers, long-boned fingers dipping into the wetness he’d created between her trembling thighs. The sensations built within her, heat gathering and radiating from her center until she was swept away in a torrent of pleasure.

“Naomi, are you hungry, dear?”

Naomi let her eyes fall open at the sound of her name being called. Looking up, she saw Deidra standing at her bedside with a tray of food in hand. She sat up, squinting against the assault of the bright sunlight flowing in through the window. “What time is it?”

“Nearly six. The girls have already had their dinner.” Deidra placed the tray on the short three-legged table at the bedside.

“Why didn’t somebody wake me earlier?” She rubbed her eyes and did her best to shake off the cobwebs of sleep and the heat still pulsing from her core.

Deidra chuckled. “Eat, dear. When you’re ready, you can come out to the parlor with us.” That said, the older woman slipped quietly from the room, closing the door behind her.

Alone now, Naomi surveyed the offerings on the tray. Cook had prepared roast chicken, green beans and some of her famous buttery cornbread. A cup of lemonade completed the meal, and she ate heartily, since she’d had nothing to eat since the previous day’s dinner. Finished, she brought the cloth napkin to her lips to wipe her mouth and set the tray aside.

Of its own accord, her mind drifted back to the dream. She’d never had an erotic dream before and didn’t really know how to react to it. The sensations she’d felt had been so real, it was hard to push away the images. His eyes had been so intense, and focused only on her. Honestly, she supposed the “education” she’d gotten from the girls had put the idea in her mind, but the desire she felt for Jonathan was very real.

She remembered the previous night just as well. Being tossed out into the night, the hate-filled eyes of Jeb Pratt, the hard bark of the tree she’d leaned against as she waited to be taken back to town. With the exception of Jonathan’s mother, almost everyone she’d met so far in Graham had treated her kindly. She’d wanted to believe that all the citizens were as nice, but since meeting the unknown woman
